Cusco - Cloud Forest - Manu National Park, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock
Your journey begins with an early departure from Cusco, ascending the majestic Andes to the colonial town of Paucartambo. From here, we reach the gateway of Manu National Park at Acjanaco, where the high mountains meet the sky. The descent into the mystical Cloud Forest is breathtaking; as the vegetation thickens, we enter the lek of the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock. You will witness these bright red birds performing their unique mating dance amidst the mist. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for Woolly Monkeys and the vibrant Quetzal. We conclude the day at our first lodge, surrounded by the sounds of the humid forest.
Pilcopata - Atalaya - second lodge and Lake Machuhuasi
After a delicious tropical breakfast, we travel to the Port of Atalaya. Here, we board our motorized boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River, observing various bird species and riverside wildlife. Upon arriving at our second lodge, we settle in before heading to the serene Lake Machuhuasi. Navigating the lake on traditional balsa rafts, you’ll enter a prehistoric world inhabited by the strange-looking Hoatzin bird and Black Caimans. The afternoon is dedicated to hiking through primary forest trails where our expert guides explain the medicinal uses of Amazonian plants and search for various species of monkeys and sloths in the high canopy.
Second Lodge - Parrot Watching - Clay Lick Parrot
The day begins before dawn as we head to the Parrot Clay Lick, a truly spectacular natural phenomenon. Watch in awe as dozens of blue-headed parrots and parakeets descend to the riverbanks to eat mineral-rich clay, creating a chaotic symphony of sound and color. After this avian spectacle, we dive deeper into the jungle trails to explore the complex ecosystem of the lowland forest. We visit hidden lagoons and giant Ceiba trees that have stood for centuries. In the evening, we embark on a night walk; with only our flashlights, we discover a different world filled with tarantulas, colorful frogs, and the glowing eyes of nocturnal creatures.
Second lodge - Atalaya - Cloud Forest - Cusco
On our final day, we enjoy the last morning chorus of the Amazon. After a hearty breakfast, we board our boat for the return trip to Atalaya Port. From here, our private transport begins the winding ascent back through the Cloud Forest, offering a final chance to spot any wildlife we may have missed. We pause for photos at scenic overlooks where the vast Amazon basin stretches out below us like a green ocean. As we cross the high Andean passes once more, the tropical air turns crisp. We arrive back in the historic city of Cusco by early evening, marking the end of an unforgettable rainforest adventure.

What is the best time of year to visit Manu National Park?
The best time is during the dry season, from May to October, when there is less rain and wildlife is easier to spot. However, Manu is beautiful year-round, and the "lush" season (November to April) offers vibrant green landscapes and fewer tourists.
Do I need a Yellow Fever vaccination?
While not always strictly required by law for all travelers, it is highly recommended for any trip into the Amazon basin. We suggest consulting your doctor at least 10 days before your trip to ensure you are protected..
Is there a risk of Malaria in this part of the Manu?
The areas visited on this 4-day tour (Cultural Zone) are considered low-risk. However, we recommend using a repellent with DEET and wearing long-sleeved shirts and trousers, especially during dawn and dusk.
Will I have internet or cell phone service at the lodges?
Once we leave the town of Pilcopata, signal is extremely limited or non-existent. Our lodges do not have Wi-Fi. This is the perfect opportunity to "unplug" and fully immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of the rainforest.
What is the weather like in the Manu?
Expect the unexpected! The Cloud Forest can be chilly and misty, while the lowland jungle is usually hot and humid (25°C to 32°C). Occasionally, "friajes" (cold fronts) can drop temperatures significantly, so layers are key

How many people are in a tour group?
We believe in intimate, low-impact experiences. Our groups are typically small, ranging from 2 to 8 people, allowing for better wildlife viewing and personalized attention from your guide.
How do I get back to Cusco on the final day?
We provide private transport from the Port of Atalaya back to Cusco. We typically arrive in the city between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, dropping you off at your hotel or near the main plaza.
